a. Oak: Oak wood has outstanding properties as regards strength and elasticity, at the same time as high resistance to wear. It is of medium hardness, heavy and resistant to shrinkage. Oak is easy to work, and its surface treatment is unproblematic. Whileits sapwood is yellowish-white, the heart-wood is coloured yellowy brown and is subject to darkening. b.
