FREEZING IN THE GLOSS

The introduction of physical matting of radiation-curable acrylate formulations into industrial practice [1-4] has benefited the production of super-matte surfaces, both technically and economically. A super-matte surface is one that has a gloss level below 5 gloss units at 60º. These surfaces owe their matte appearance to the creation of microstructures. Although the microstructures may vary topographically, macroscopically they yield super-matte surfaces, which may vary in gloss and haptic properties.
