FLEXIBLE, AFFORDABLE NEW BICYCLIC RESINS

DCPD-based diols and polyols are prepared from NBR. NBR is prepared from DCPD and acrylic acid. Scheme 1 shows this process. Figure 1 shows some special characteristics of NBR. This self-addition self-catalytic (SASC) polymerisation reaction is a useful method for constructing carbon-carbon bonds. In this SASC polymerisation, the carboxyl group acts as both catalyst and nucleophile. The mechanism to make this novel polyester containing a bicyclic structure is the addition of a carboxyl group across the norbornenyl double bonds in norbornenyl carboxylic acid.
