Over the years paint manufacturers have expressed a strong interest in improving the performance of flat paints. Besides paint manufactures, the durability of flat paints is also important to contractors, building decision makers, and consumers. There is currently a disparity between painter productivity needs and consumer expectations. Contractors want an easy-to-apply finish (i.e. flat paint) while consumers want both the flawless finish of a flat paint plus the high performance of an eggshell or semi-gloss paint. Professional painters prefer to apply "dead flat" paint when performing original or repaint jobs because flat paints do a better job of hiding defects ...
