SUSTAINABLE POLYESTER RESINS FOR COATINGS

Sustainability awareness, legislation and customer requirements are dictating trends in industrial development, and the relatively conservative coating segment is no exception. This article looks at using sustainable bio-based materials to produce coatings with a lower carbon footprint. Although bio-based aliphatic polyols and polyacids are increasingly common, aromatic monomers are still a challenge. Replacing petrol-based terephthalic acid (TPA) with fully bio-based 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) is a step in the right direction.
