A LONG WAY IN THE WRONG DIRECTION

In May 2016, the French agency ANSES presented to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) a proposal to classify titanium dioxide as a carcinogen, category 1B, by inhalation. The competent EU Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) recognised the problem concerning the inhalation of fine dusts but did not consider the available data to be sufficient, as lung overload studies in rats cannot be transferred to humans.
