SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES

Discussions on Bisphenol A (BPA) and legislation banning the use of BPAcontaining products in certain food packaging items led to questions concerning relevance for heavy duty coatings for drinking water contact. In the protective and powder coating sectors there is a substantial part of epoxy-based coatings sold for drinking water and food contact applications. When no answers can be given to questions raised by authorities concerning release of BPA during use and degradation, a ban on BPA could have serious consequences for the sector.
