A novel antibacterial surface comprised of eucalyptus essential oil has been developed. The oil has been trapped within the micro-nanostructures of a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate leading to superhydrophobic behaviour of the surface. The superhydrophobic sur- face has antibacterial abilities preventing the establishment of E. coli and B. cereus bacterial colonies and biofilms. Eucalyptus essential oils are extracted from around 20 eucalyptus species.
