HIDDEN BLACKNESS OF CARBON BLACK

The visual impression of the "black" is not only dependent on the reflectance but also on the hue. This can be determined using colorimetric methods. Considering the relative sensitivity of the cones in human eyes of a standard observer (2º or 10º field of view), in combination with a standard illuminant, all colours can be represented by three components, red, green and blue: tristimulus values, X, Y and Z.
