CONNECTING ODOUR AND VOLATILES

The relationship between odour and the release of chemical compounds is complex; some people equate them, although odour is determined by sensory perception and volatile organic compound (VOC) content is determined by an analytical measurement. We explored the relationship for hot-melt adhesives (HMAs) and their major components, tackifier resins and elastomers. Public concern for the potential adverse health effects of chemicals released from personal hygiene products and other consumer goods is rising worldwide, especially in countries experiencing rapid economic growth.
