Poly(urethane-acrylate) (PUA) hybrid dispersions were successfully synthesised through an in situ soap-free emulsion polymerisation of acrylic monomers by using water-borne polyurethanes (WPUs) as seed emulsions. Introducing polyacrylate into WPU dispersions effectively improves their mechanical properties and alkali resistance.
