According to a new study by Peres et al. (Progress in Organic Coatings 2018) the presence of propolis within a silicone matrix coating increased the anticorrosive properties and decreased adhesion of S. aureus bacteria. Propolis is produced by honey bees and well-known for its antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal effects. These effects are crucial for the wellbeing of the bees in their hive.
