Mannich base epoxy curatives offer unrivalled low-temperature cure and resilience to application in arduous conditions but concerns about their safe use are growing. It is customary to enhance the reactivity of amido-amine and polyamide curatives, especially at reduced temperatures, by incorporating free phenols, aromatic accelerators, and mannich bases. However, in doing so the modified amido- amine or polyamide assumes the associated hazard classification. To overcome the hazards introduced through inclusion of the free phenols, mannich bases, and/or other accelerators, there is a pressing need for innovative epoxy curatives that combine the attributes of each, without the negative hazard rating. ...
