RELIABLE METHOD TO ASSESS POLYMER DISPERSIONS

White point temperature (WPT) and minimum film formation temperature (MFFT) analysis can be used to assess the state of matter of polymers dispersed in water. Such assessment is important given the restriction on synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM) in EU Regulation 2023/2055. The materials described in this article are referred to in the literature as polymer emulsions, polymer dispersions, polymer latexes etc. They are mostly used as raw materials (binders) in many water-borne applications such as adhesives, varnishes and coatings, printing inks, non-wovens, paper and paperboard textile finishing agents and re-dispersible polymer powders [1-3].
