A paradox exists in nature in that one of the most abundant compounds - nitrogen - is in a form that cannot be used by most living organisms, including agricultural plants. As a result, nitrogen availability to primary producers, such as plants, is one of the major limiting factors in many ecosystems, including agricultural systems [1].
