PUTTING THE FLEXIBLE INTO POLYURETHANES

A new bifunctional polymeric isocyanate (BPI) with a specific structure based on hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) has recently been developed. This product has a functionality of two NCO groups per molecule as well as a low viscosity (around 150 mPa s). Other important features include the fact that BPI is a polymer and that it is partially bio-based, thanks to the incorporation of a long hydrophobic chain. The product has a 32 % carbon content obtained from renewable resources.
