Since centuries the same production methods at the oldtown of Fès, Morocco prevail: In loads of pits leather gets cleaned, soaked and coloured. It takes about a year until the skin of an animal becomes leather that can be sold. Indigo is one of the natural colourants used: Just a bit added in the laundry and it becomes white, a bit more and it turns blue. Further pigments employed are from poppy (red), henna (orange), cedar wood (brown), mint (green) and saffron (yellow).
