a. Oak: Oak wood has outstanding properties as regards strength and elasticity, at the same time as high resistance to wear. It is of medium hardness, heavy and resistant to shrinkage. Oak is easy to work, and its surface treatment is unproblematic. Whileits sapwood is yellowish-white, the heart-wood is coloured yellowy brown and is subject to darkening. b. Beech: In beech, the heartwood and sapwood are pale yellow to reddish brown. The grain is relatively plain. Its high strength, toughness, extreme hardness and abrasion resistance make beech wood an extremely useful material in furniture-making and interior-fitting work.The timber ...
